Expectations and wishes over coffee and Chocolate Financier
Every time I sit down to write my first few posts of the year, I can’t help but think about the year that was. I guess that’s normal, considering I’m fairly sentimental, but I’m pretty sure by now you’re all tired of hearing about how quickly 2015 went by. And even though that’s applicable to me to some extent, it feels more appropriate right now to talk about how thankful I am for 2015 regardless of how long or how short it felt. I feel like 2015 is the year I truly began to understand my purpose for becoming a blogger. I’ve been doing this a couple of years now,…

A Bûche de Noël to wish you a very merry Christmas
There are several things I love about Christmas, and no they do not involve material presents. There’s the food, which is always a tad more abundant around this time of the year. I also love getting reunion invitations from friends I haven’t seen in years! But what I really honestly look forward to about Christmas is that especially magnified sense of contentment I always get. I’ve always felt like my year culminates during the Christmas holidays instead of the new year. I guess with all the excitement on New Year’s Eve I have difficulty finding that moment of solitude to really take in everything that I have around me, or…

{Countdown to Christmas} Minty Chocolate Bundt Cake
By appearance, it would seem that this bundt cake isn’t quite as Christmas-y as most holiday treats. There are no red or green splashes of colour nor intricate Christmas designs and shapes, but simply a rich, dark chocolate cake with an equally rich and dark glaze. The thing that adds a decidedly Christmas twist to this cake is the touch of peppermint extract I applied to the glaze. Small as that may be, I do think this is a good kick-off post for the series of holiday recipes I am excited to share! I’ve been eyeing this recipe awhile mostly because of this photo. I just love how the glaze…

{Dearly Dreaming Dorie} A Black and White birthday cake for Papa
I don’t tend to say it out loud, but I like going out of my way to do things for my Dad, big or small. That’s why despite having zero experience and practice in making real layer cakes, I stubbornly pushed through with this one. I wanted to make him a birthday cake. A few open cookbooks later, I decided on one of the most elegant-looking cakes in Dorie Greenspan’s wonderful cookbook. It’s become such a habit for me to pick a Dorie Greenspan recipe whenever I’m baking something for the first time. I have had much success using her recipes; but I turn to her mostly because I like…

Devour-worthy Triple Chocolate Zucchini Bread
I’m not a big sweets and confections eater, but I have such a fondness for chocolate, dark chocolate in particular, that I would venture to say it is one of my ultimate food-related weaknesses. Wave a dark chocolate bar at me and chances are you’d get me to do you a small favor. If it’s a big favor, then something with at least 60% cacao of a brand that is hard to pronounce would be wonderful. I’m joking, of course. In all seriousness though, I think there is a chance I would be able to have people do me favors with this particular recipe. It’s becoming quite difficult to be…
