Let me tell you a little story I was supposed to tell you with a ton of pictures, which as I mentioned in two posts already, got corrupted when my memory card failed me. Anyway, this story is all about the first time ever I bought myself a bag of pine nuts. (Bag? Psssh! What am I saying? It’s a teeny tiny “bag” is what it is!) I was going down through the “newly developed” baking aisle at the SM Supermarket when I found a surprisingly extensive selection of nuts under the Dough-It-All brand. It cost me the ridiculous amount of Php334 (USD 8 approximately) for what I would later find out…

My favourite way to candy nuts
I don’t know of anyone who dislikes candied nuts. Even someone like me who doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth will take a bag of candied nuts from a crying child any day. Okay maybe not from a child, especially when said child is crying, but I would not hesitate for a second to nicely ask for a couple of pieces. Unless the nuts are candied to rock solid status and are so wrapped up in hardened sugar it’s like biting into a meteor. In which case, please take back your rock-hard nuts and throw it at your lover’s window so that she may come down and meet you.…

A sweet and sour surprise to show some sisterly love
I suppose I’ll have to apologise for my extended absence after my birthday post, but this is going to be a long one to make up for that. It’s actually two different recipes rolled into one post, but recipes that complement each other in ways that the first bite will immediately make you understand. Let me put it into a simple equation: macarons + ice cream = ultimate indulgence. I’d have this over cake any day, any time. Now a little backstory for how this recipe actually came to be made: It was actually Jason’s request for our birthday. I told him I’d make him whatever he wanted as a…

Jeni’s Queen City Cayenne Ice Cream + my failed attempt at a video tutorial
You know what they say– It’s always good to try something new. There were two new things I tried when I made this recipe: First is the genius ice cream technique of Jeni Britton Bauer; and second, I attempted to make a video tutorial! I’ve been thinking about foraying into videos for a while but just for the tougher recipes– those that need to be demonstrated in a way that step-by-step photos cannot fully express. Ice cream doesn’t exactly fit that bill but I figured it’s better to start shooting a video of something that’s a little easier and quicker to make. Unfortunately things don’t quite turn out well when…
